A search for…
Blake was fumbling…
Fumbling to come to terms with reality…
Fumbling to cope with the truth…
Laid bare naked and writhing in front of his very own eyes.
The sight was gruesome… the destruction unprecedented…
After all, it was the golden age of nuclear warfare…
And great men killing their brothers heartlessly with their impressive laser guns.
It was the war of pride… it was the war of pleasure…
The pleasure that humans get after brutally slaughtering a fellow being!
Blake had been wandering the endless plains that were once referred to as a city…
It serves no purpose to mention the name… as it was no more.
The city was gone… so were the people…
The only ones left were the lifeless corpses and the fighters of war…
Strangely, the creatures fighting the war were called humans too,
Same as the countless frozen in the snow who were no longer alive.
The frozen corpses were being mercilessly mauled by the heavy boots of the fighters,
But they weren’t doing in on purpose… it was the corpses’ fault…
After all, they were the ones coming in the way.
Blake was searching…
Blake was searching for something he lost yesterday…
It was something immensely valuable…
It was something so close to his heart,
He couldn’t express the grief he was experiencing without it in some petty words…
It was his life-blood…
It was the thing he lived on…
It was his passion… his cocaine… his love… his life…
Blake could feel the tears coming out of his eyes in torrents,
They were relentless… and he wasn’t proud of it.
Blake searched on and on…
Until that grisly sight met his eyes…
The tiny thing… mangled and mauled beyond recognition by some heartless guttersnipe who wasn’t fit to be called human…
The tears were blurring Blake’s vision, and he didn’t look too close…
But when he did… his face broke into a grin…
It wasn’t the one he was looking for…
Maybe… maybe… the thing he was looking for was okay…
Maybe the thing he was looking for was fine…
He wouldn’t know… until he found it.
And in the end, he did… and was overwhelmed with a striking sense of pleasure…
He had found his pet… he had found his love…
He had found the priceless laser shooter,
That he had received as a gift from his father ages ago…
It was a family heirloom, something that he treasured beyond anything else in this mortal world.
It has, of course, been his savior… several times since the war started seven years ago.
And… I may add… which he had used a couple of days ago to blow up a family of five…
There was a man, his wife… their two sons… and a small, two-month-old baby girl…
